Who Is Jesus Christ?

Very few people question whether Jesus existed. It is generally accepted that he was a man born 2000 years ago in Israel. Most people would say He was a teacher and a good man, perhaps even a prophet but Jesus was way more than that. Here are some of the things the Bible says about Him along with references so you can see where they come from.

Jesus is God. John 1:1, Romans 9:5, Colossians 2:9

Jesus created the universe. John 1:1 – 3, Colossians 1:16, Hebrews 1:1 – 3

Jesus became a man. Luke 2:7, John 4:6, Hebrews 2:14

Jesus shows us exactly what God is like in ways we can understand. Hebrews 1:3, 2 Corinthians 4:4, Colossians 1:15

Jesus was perfect — He never sinned. He is an example for us to follow if we want to live a life that pleases God. 2 Corinthians 5:21, Hebrews 7:26, 1 Peter 2:22

Jesus can represent us before His Father. Because Jesus is perfectly sinless He has free access to His Father, and because He is a man He can represent us in His Father's presence — where we cannot go because we have sinned. Romans 8:34, 1 Timothy 2:5, Hebrews 9:24

Jesus took responsibility for our sins and suffered everything we deserve to suffer because of them. That is why He had to die and because He did God can forgive us and now we can live in His presence. Isaiah 53:5 – 6, 1 Corinthians 15:1 – 3, 1 Peter 2:24

Jesus returned from death and is still alive. Luke 24:1 – 8, Acts 1:3, 1 Corinthians 15:20, Revelation 1:18

Jesus is in heaven now. Luke 24:51, Acts 1:9 – 11

Jesus is the head of the church. Colossians 1:18, Ephesians 1:22 – 23

Jesus is in charge of everything. Philippians 2:5 – 11

Jesus is coming back. Acts 1:11, Revelation 1:7

Jesus will judge everyone one day. John 5:22, Romans 2:16, 2 Corinthians 5:10

These are all things Jesus told us about Himself and they are only the start of what we know about Him. Everything we know about Jesus comes from the Bible. In fact the whole Bible is really about Him. The Old Testament looks forward to prepare us for Him coming as a man, the gospels tell us about His life and the epistles explain the things He taught.

So you see, to believe that Jesus was just another teacher and a good man, or even a prophet is not an option. If Jesus is not everything He claimed to be, He is not a good man, He is nothing. But if He is all He claimed to be... That is why at KEC it is all about Jesus: getting to know Him better, worshipping Him and telling others about Him.
